Dataverse Phone Field Type

Hi - I am wondering what the Phone field type is for in the dataverse? When I use it, it doesn't format the input as a phone number and it also doesn't have any validation (i.e. I can enter 2 digits as opposed to the full 10). I also can't add an input mask to it in my model app so I am wondering why I would use this data type vs single line text? Thanks for the help!

as far I know phone type field does not do format validation but instruct UI to display and treat them like phone type field and display relevant help text and extra control buttons (some of them shown in screen print below)

Hi @cwwhite1 ,

@MayankP is correct and also when you click on the control (phone icon) it will dial with Teams or other default provider (similar to email will open up the default email client).
