Two related SharePoint lists a single form; Child list as a MS Access-like sub form

Hello all,

I am new to Power Apps; though I have some experience in designing MS Access forms.

I have two SharePoint Lists, ListParent and ListChild, and there is a common field linking them together. They are in one-to-many relationships.

Now I want to create a single Power Apps screen which shows all fields of ListParent in the upper part, and all related fields of ListChild in data sheet view, like a sub-form control in MS Access. Users must be able to insert, delete and update any related records in the sub-form part.

In MS Access it would be very easy to do so, but I am clueless about how to do the same in Power Apps....  Can you give me a broad direction for me to explore further? Thanks very much in advance.

Is the name of your common column identical in both lists?  I typically collect the Parent ID as parentID in the child list so in my Gallery in the top, the Items property is List1 and in the datatable on the bottom, the Items property is Filter(list2, parentID=Gallery1.Selected.ID.  If the names of the common column in both lists is identical, then the column in the child list must be disambiguated.

    Hi @Anonymous ,

The easiest way to do this is to add a form and set the DataSource property to ListParent and add a reference to the Item property (which Item to display). Then add a gallery below that and set the Items property to something like Filter(ListChild, Title = DataCardValue1.Text). Finally add controls to the gallery to display the columns you want:

From here you can decide if you want the user to be able to add/edit items to ListChild in the same screen or in another screen.

If you want the same screen, you have to add TextInputs/DropDowns/etc to the gallery and a save button to save any changes made. An Add button should create a blank item which needs to be edited.

Another option is to have the user navigate to antoher sceen which has a form to add/edit items in ListChild.

Finally a delete button needs to be added inside the gallery to allow for deletion of the selected Item.

Like @BCBuizer said.  I missed the part about adding and modifying data to the lower part.

    Hi @Drrickryp ,

Thanks for your suggestion; but I am afraid the datatable control is read-only, right? How can the user edit and insert inside a datatable like as MS Access subform control?

    Hi @Anonymous ,

There are plenty of videos out there on editable grids in PowerApps which will serve your purpose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI6SHGQ9ATg
