PowerApps Flow Connection and Managed Solutions - .Run failed: Connection not configured for this service.

We have a flow that triggers an approval as part of a managed solution - when the solution is imported into the target environment we get the error: LeanAssessmentsApproval.Run failed: Connection not configured for this service.

As part of fault finding we have imported the solution into one of our other Dev environments as an unmanaged solution and can see that the issue is the flow is showing as 'Not connected'

In this instance, removing the flow and readding it has resolved the problem - however we cannot find a solution that allows us to re-connect the flow in:

a) a managed solution

b) without deleting and re-adding the flow

The managed solution is due to be imported into the target environment by someone that is not familiar with the 'backend' of PowerApps so it's a fair assumption that they cannot be expected to edit/add/remove etc.

Is there a way to import a managed solution whilst maintaining the connection to the flow within a PowerApp or is this a current limitation of Solutions?

I have the same question (0)

Was the flow created inside the solution originally or was it added later?  Did you check to make sure you are using a Connection reference for the flow instead of a direct Connection?  It looks like you are using a Power Apps trigger.  Are the Power App and the flow both in the same solution?  Are you using the Power Apps V2 trigger or the original?  Did you adjust the run only user settings in the flow?

    Hi @Pstork1

Thanks for the quick response - I've answered as best as I can - apologies, solutions are a whole new world, so still learning as I use them.

    1) The flow was created outside of the solution (both the app and the flow existed before there was need for us to deploy via solution)

    2) There are connection references in the solution that were added as required objects of the flow - is this what you mean?

    3) Yes - both in the same solution
    4) It is the PowerApps trigger, using V2

    5) Where will I find this - I can't seem to find any user settings in the flow?

First, I would double check the flow to make sure it is using the Connection References you created.  If its not you should get a warning in the flow checker.  That warning has a link that will let you remove any direct connections so you can replace them with connection references.

The Run only user settings are at the bottom of the right side of the page in the flow details.

If you edit that you will see a dropdown.  You need to specify that Run only users will use the connection of the maker.  The default is that they use their own connection.  That won't work in a managed solution. Pick the connection you used in the connection reference.

Also, after doing that make sure you refresh the flow inside the Power App.

Thanks - changing the Run only user settings seems to have sorted it.

The flow now works when the managed solution is imported 🙂

I figured it was one of those things.  There is a bit of a laundry list when working with flows imported into a solution.

I still cannot get flows to run in a PROD managed solution. Can someone help me out? Perhaps @Pstork1 ? Thanks

Please post this as a new question and send me a link with how your solution is setup and what you are doing to export/import it and I'll try to help.

actually, found the issue. The end users were not added into the "Basic User" security role in PA admin.

    Hi @Pstork1

How did you know the solution to this issue? I assume just from great experience, but is it documented somewhere in the MS docs that you know of. This issue has been driving me crazy for a while and so super happy that I came across your reply.

I haven't seen this documented officially anywhere. But its a problem I've seen mentioned by others many times. As I said its usually when related apps and flows are exported/imported to another environment. For that it makes sense to do the export/import at the same time using a solution. But I've seen using a solution fix this in a number of cases. So yes, its just an accumulation of experience.
