video tutorial for canvas app that contains request header table and related request details table

Hello,

Getting deeper into power apps!

Looking for a video tutorial on creating a canvas app for an application that contains a request header table and related request details table.
I've searched online a bit and nothing I've found specifically refers to an application which contains a header record and a related details record (1 to many). Such as Request and request items or Order and order lines. Maybe I'm not understanding the results of my inquiries.

I've built the related tables in Dataverse. I've used plan designer to spin up an app, but it doesn't quite get to my use case of add a new request (header) and then add detail records to that request without having to select the header record every time a details record is added.

Any video suggestions that target this use case?

Thanks!

It would help a lot if you put a mock picture of what you want

I found this in the MS learn site. It basically covers the concept I'm after except the detail records need to be created by the user of the app for my use case not selected from an "Order Products" table like described in the learn article.

The use case is payroll correction requests.

The user will create a payroll correction request (header record) and then can add one or more payroll request detail records. Each detail record has a request type, and different fields will be required based on the type selected. Below is the start of the ERD.

Most of the videos I find related to this concept usually have the details record being selected from another table like products or items (like for a shopping cart type use case). In this relational use case, it is not a select or a pick but an add.

Appreciate suggestions for a tutorial closer to my use case.

or anyone else watching this one!

I was finally able to work on the project and get the set up so that I can explain what I'm having trouble finding a resource for.

I have these two Dataverse tables set up so that a payroll request header record can have many payroll correction detail records associated to it.

When a I submit the header record by clicking the 'Add Corrections' button, I not only want to patch the header record and navigate to the add correction details screen (which I'm able to do) for the user to add a correction details record. But the association to the header record should be automatic. The user should not have to select the header record in a look up once on the correction details screen. Or, if the user clicks 'Add Another' the app should know which header record to associate.

Fairly certain this is common functionality; I just can't figure it out.

    Appreciate the help!

@Cgangweg01  In addition to patching the header record to the dataverse table you also need to patch the header details into a global variable. That way you can then use the header data in the details screen for however many detail records you need to create. The principle of this is shown by Shane Young at https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7hV_s9NrV4M

I found this in the MS learn site. It basically covers the concept like described in the learn article:

    Hi!

    Thank you for the replies.
I had a hunch that patching was going to lead me to something.

Now I have to figure out how to patch to Dataverse choice column!

Patching to Choices is easy enough depending on whether its a Single or Multi-select and if you are using a ComboBox or a Dropdown control, if its in a Form then its super easy.

DId you already get this resolved?

Thanks for reaching back on this one. I was able to patch the choice field.

Side note: Is there an official/common/appropriate way to message folks to click the suggested answer 'Does this answer your question?' check box? One way or the another, I'd just like to know as some of these I invest a bit of time in to try and get right while I learn more.
