Dataverse Lookup Column Not Working in Teams

Hi,

I have been using the Dataverse for Teams environment for some of my projects and I don't know if the problem I'm explaining below only applies to this new service. I am using a lookup column like I would in any other app outside of Dataverse for teams. I am returning data in the app via the record.referenced_related_table_record.attribute syntax fine in the maker portal. Yet, it returns blank when being used for production. Here is the code and screenshots outlining the issue attached. As you can see in the live photo it is actually returning blank instead of the data I know is there. Potentially a problem with permissions? I thought so too so I changed all my tables to full access.

Is record a global variable you are setting?

There is a setting in canvas power apps, called Explicit Column settings. I have seen, when this is enabled, that it will sometimes have issues with columns which are not used in the app explicitly and/or on related entities.

You can solve this, potentially, in a few ways:

    • Use AddColumns when setting the variable, and force the column you need into a custom column as part of the record object
    • Add a Label or other control, to explicitly display the related field

Unfortunately, I couldn't find that setting in the teams maker portal.

    For the first solution-

Using addcolumns would be ok if I am setting the variable within the app but I am not. I am selecting a record already in the data source. Therefore if I cant access the lookup value saved then I cant add it directly from the related table via addcolumns.

    For the second solution-

I tried another app with the combobox to reproduce it and was having the same issues.

I feel like its an error of Microsofts which is out of my control as everything works how I want it to when I preview it.

I do not understand the feedback on the first solution/question.

What is the record object in this context? I am not aware of DFT or any Power App context, where it provides a built-in object with that name. I may be mistaken, however. Can you clarify what that record object is, and how it's being set?

I set the variable on the onselect property of a gallery. It is stored as shown in this image as a record variable.

Managed to export to power apps, toggle setting and move back to the teams environment. It works but when I change the app it toggles the setting back which is annoying. This is because the 'Explicit Column' setting is not available in the teams environments. Thanks for your comment.
