Unable to Publish Copilot Agent – System Topic 'Conversation Start' Edited

Hello

I’m getting an error when trying to publish a Copilot agent in Copilot Studio. After editing the system topic to customize the agent’s introduction, the agent saves successfully but fails to publish. I followed troubleshooting steps recommended by copilot with no luck.

Here are the details:

Issue: Publishing fails with the message: “There was a problem when publishing your agent. Please try again later.”
  • Session ID: 592f6a30-9af5-11f0-9efa-d7a85e83a98d
  • Agent Name: UNM PCard Assistant
  • Environment: FSD-Test
  • Recent Change: I edited the system topic to the following text: “I’m an AI agent designed to assist UNM departments with questions related to PCard. I provide accurate and current information about PCard policies and procedures. How can I assist you today?”

I’ve removed any external URL references and ensured the text is neutral and concise. Despite this, publishing continues to fail. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thank you,

Naren

    hello

i understand how it could feel frustrating,

First, did you try to create a "blank" agent and test publishing button to see if there is no error at tenant level (it's 0,1% chance but sometime it happen)

Then when you have the error isnt there a little arrow to have more information about the problem ? something like this could help (I got the folowing image by creating an invalid agent number of knowledge source )

About what you post : here it's not the official Microsoft support but a community public forum, so ID , environnement name and company name aren't data wich could help us and more i would not recommand to show them on public web. (ID are auto generated so no use for people who are not in the Microsoft Support Team)

When i have this kind of error it come from different case wich are :
    - Error inside of a topic i have modified : you have a topic checker you can run manually : it tell you where the error is wich cannot allow to publish

Since you edited a system topic, could you remove you custom ? probably some code error or modification

Hope this hint will help you to solve the problem :)
