"Open in Excel Online" Data Import - Security Role Permissions

I have a user who would like to leverage the "Open in Excel Online" feature of model-driven apps to bulk import rows of data dynamically based on the columns she selects in her views. She is able to open the view in Excel Online, edit/add rows wherever she needs, but when she tries to submit the changes she gets an "Insufficient Permissions" error that does not specify a specific table that she is lacking permissions to.

Her security role has already been tweaked for full organization-level access to Data Import, Data Map, Import Source File, and Import Job tables, but she is still unable to run the import job. Of course, she also has full access to the table she is trying to import data into.

Am I missing a key setting and/or security role tweak that needs to be in place for a model-driven app user to run import jobs using the native "Open in Excel Online" feature found in model-driven apps?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @ballardn,

Have you also granted the Bulk Edit privilege? You can find it under the Miscellaneous tab.

Sorry, forgot to specify that one… But yes, the role does include full permissions to Bulk Edit and Bulk Delete as well.

    Hi @ballardn,

To confirm, the user is able to edit the same rows of data via the user interface?

You could try to replicate the issue in something like SQL 4 CDS for the XrmToolBox, where you can impersonate the user and see if you get the same error, and if it provides you will more error details.

    Hi @ballardn

I know this thread is old, but for others looking for an answer:

In the Business Management tab, under Privacy Related Privileges you need to enable 'Export to Excel'
