Dataset PCF - "Save" user configurations

Hi again - thanks for the previous help. Thought I'd try again for another issue.

I've got a few different dataset PCF controls that I need to develop that would ideally allow a user to save a configuration for them.

One instance would be a pivot table that allows users to group/aggregate data. I'd like to be able to save a users selected rows, columns and values and potentially save and/or share these. Has anyone achieved something similar or could recommend an approach?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @skoofy5 ,

I suppose that you don't mean real PCF configuration, but something like userSettings.

One possibility would be to cache some data (PCF state, localStorage or sessionStorage), and reuse it next time the PCF is initialized. I have a blog about caching: PCF: Caching – Dianamics PCF Lady (wordpress.com)

But if you want to share with other uses, I suppose you could make an own "userSettings" table, und let the users store the settings. That would allow them to share the settings.

Technically you can have 2 approaches:

    1.  use webAPI to read/save the settings
    2. use a second dataset for your PCF. That would provide the records, and you need to use the webAPI only when you have to save the settings.

    Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

    Diana

Yeah caching wouldn't be the way to go, but enjoyed reading the blog. Thanks!

I've considered an additional 'settings' table and if you're suggesting it that means it's probably one of my best options. Thanks, Diana!
