License requirement

Hi people,

We are planning to build a Canvas app that will be used by internal users/company staff only. We chose the Canvas app because it won't need a complex relational database or such, just a place to store the data that would either be on SharePoint or Dataverse. The app doesn't have complex requirements and might as well only be used in a production environment. Our organization already has an E3 license.

I read articles available online but seem too confusing so thought I would drop the questions here. My question(s):

1. Is this license enough to let the users open the app and push the data? Or do we need to buy another license specific to PowerApps?
2. Out of the topic, does SharePoint have the capacity to store only 5000 records per list?

Appreciate your advice and help in advance

Thank you!

    Hi ,

    1. Is this license enough to let the users open the app and push the data? Or do we need to buy another license specific to PowerApps?: If you want to go with Dataverse then PowerApps premium license is required. Please check Licensing overview for Microsoft Power Platform.
    2. Out of the topic, does SharePoint have the capacity to store only 5000 records per list?: 5000 is list threshold limit. Please check https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/troubleshoot/lists-and-libraries/items-exceeds-list-view-threshold

You can store up to 30 million items or files in a list or library, however as the number of items increases, you might notice certain operations will take longer. Filtered views of large lists have a similar experience to other lists. However, when a list view shows more than 5,000 items, you might run into a list view threshold error. Adding to @ANB's response, when a SharePoint list or Library gets over 5,000 records (as per the linked post), you need to index (in SharePoint) any columns involved in queries. You are allowed 20 indexes per List/Library. I have many over 100k that work perfectly well on Delegable queries.
