Hi all,

I'd be grateful for any support in troubleshooting why the above error is being received when attempting to use a plug in action. From what I can tell online, I've set it up correctly with inputs working fine, outputs have been created but I'm still receiving that error.

For additional important information:

This plugin is set to be AI triggered, so it is not currently used within a specific topic.

There was a pre-made output option of ‘response’ I’ve currently left blank.

The inputs work fine and the plugin is firing - it is just not providing an output.

Hi Matt51,

The Error Code: PluginActionNoOutputSetInEmitMode occurs when an action in your Copilot Studio bot does not have any outputs defined, despite being set to emit a response. Essentially, every action that is expected to output something (such as a message or variable) must have at least one defined output for it to work correctly.

Check all the action or flow in question to ensure that it has an output specified. This could be a message, variable, or dynamic value. If you're using a condition or a process that emits a response, ensure that a value (like a message text or a variable) is being passed back.

If you're generating responses dynamically using AI or system actions, you might need to explicitly set the output in the action, as it could be left undefined if this is not done.

Hi Vinoth

Thank you for your reply. Sorry I perhaps should have mentioned, this plugin utilises the action ‘get row’ from Excel online. I have set it so the output will be data from various columns & the response will be a generative answer. This plugin is not current being called specifically within a topic, the hope was it is enabled and the generative AI will utilise when relevant.

Other than listing & describing the outputs and selecting the display of the response, I cannot see where else I could specify an output?

UPDATE:

If I set the the display to 'you create a message' and add in the output record, it will output a response... but twice. The initial response being a full return which I don't want and the second response being the AI generated response which I'm hoping to achieve:

Hi Matt51,

Make sure that you only have one response action (either outputting directly or through AI generation) rather than both. If two responses are set up in sequence, one might be coming from the default response setup and another from the custom logic.

Ensure that the default response (which may be the full return you're seeing) is disabled if you're aiming to show only the AI-generated response.

Hi @Vinoth

Thank you for replying. Would you mind explaining how I can do this?

Currently if I set ‘How do you want to display information to the user’ to AI dynamically generates message - I get the error message.

If I set it to ‘You create a message’ and add in the Output record, I get the 2 messages.

Hi Matt51,

Ideally if you set ‘How do you want to display information to the user’ to AI dynamically generates message - it should work.

Im just wondering, if u have this default response in your output?

It might not look logically correct on what im asking. But strangely that is required to make it work properly for watever reason im not sure.

Hi Vinoth,

Yes I can confirm that it is set up that way. I have followed the instructions on your blog post and I believe it has been set up exactly as you outlined.

What I've found so far, is:

Setting it to 'AI dynamically generates a message (default)' with output mode as either 'All' or 'Specific' will cause the PluginActionNoOutputSetInEmitMode error. Code view:

Setting it to 'You create a message' with having 'Ouput.Record' in the manually created message box. And having output mode to 'Specific' will generate those 2 responses, one as the full record in raw view, the other being the expected and wished for generative AI response. Code view:
