In turns out the destination of a backup copy can only be a SANDBOX env. So I update my PRO env to be SANDBOX. But then it complains the copy if too old to be restored (for retention backup policy of 7 days for SANDBOX envs).

So even if i have a 21 days old copy in my PRO env I cannot restore it to itself.

Does it mean that a PRO environment can only be restored to a 7 days old copy maximum?

For production environments that do not have Dynamics 365 applications enabled, the default backup retention period is only 7 days. For more details read it out: Back up and restore environments - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn.
