Pointing canvas app to Data Verse tables using Power Fx

Greetings,

I have copied (imported) a canvas app from SharePoint to Dataverse. The app is essentially a mirror or clone of the original app but it is not in DV. As such, the app is still connected to lists/tables in SP. I would like to point the apps features/fields to lists/tables in DV instead, before severing the SP connections.

Questions:

Using Power Fx or other conventional methods, where can I find resources on how to do this--change the directory?

Importantly, how can I learn how the original app's features relate or map onto specific lists/tables and their columns?

Thanks,

Saul

@Anonymous - I am not aware of many resources on the subject, but Power FX is a programming language, it would not be relevant to what you're trying to do.

Some pointers when switching data sources:

    1. Create your Dataverse tables but mindful that there are significant differences between SharePoint and Dataverse. Namely that Dataverse is a true relational database whereas SharePoint is not. Dataverse has more delegable data types, and the data types which are shared between them (e.g. People, Choice, Currency columns) behave differently.
    2. Connect your App to your Dataverse tables and repoint the Items property of any controls to those tables (e.g. Gallery, Dropdown, Form controls).
    3. Delete the data connections to your SharePoint List

Despite this, it is likely you will still receive errors after deleting the SharePoint connections. In my experience there are often controls/variables etc you may have missed out on. As long as you can address each error, it is not difficult. I would recommend restarting your Canvas App often.

One warning - in my experience changing the DataSource property of an Edit Form to Dataverse from SharePoint often results in errors. I would recommend rebuilding your Edit Form controls when switching.

Thank you, Amik. Do you have any resources or references for #2 above?

    Best,
    Saul

@Anonymous the process for connecting an app to a datasource is exactly the same as if you were creating the app for the first time.

A very simple thing you can do is to use the Find/Replace feature in Power Apps Studio and search for every instance your original SharePoint datasource is being referenced. And then replace the data source with your Dataverse table.

Note that you will inevitably receive errors, but this is to be expected because as mentioned above, the data types behave differently. However, these errors are easily fixable.
