Canvas app JSON changes in Azure DevOps repo don’t show in Power Apps Studio after merge and pull

Hi everyone,

I’m using Azure DevOps Git repo for source control of my Power Apps Canvas app. I made changes directly to the app’s JSON files (like Screen1.json) in a feature branch, created a pull request, merged it into main, and then pulled the latest main branch in Power Apps Studio.
The problem is that the changes I made to the JSON files in the repo do not appear in the Canvas app designer after pulling. The app still shows the old version.

I want to know:
  • Is directly editing the Canvas app JSON files in the repo supported?
  • How can I make sure that JSON changes merged in the repo actually reflect in Power Apps Studio?
  • Is there an extra step needed in Studio to sync these changes?

When I edit the app directly in Studio and save, changes sync fine. But manual JSON edits in the repo don’t reflect.

Any advice or best practice for handling JSON changes via source control with Power Apps?

Thanks!

I think, direct editing of Canvas app JSON files (like Screen1.json) in the repo is not supported for round-tripping back into Power Apps Studio.

Power Apps currently treats the source control repository as export-only for ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) and not as a true editable round-trip medium like regular code.
