I am working with the shoutout template and was trying to customize who the emails get sent to. I was able to modify the Set Recipients section and sends to the correct people; however, the emails no longer display cleanly. Any ideas what could cause the email to display poorly all of a sudden if I haven't touched anything other than the recipients section? See images below. Broken is on the left and normal is on the right.
My guess is you accidentally turn off HTML Mode (thats actually what it is).
The bottom (which you called right) is clearly using the HTML properly.
Your top one is not, so go back to the Email and make sure to click the "Code Mode" so the HTML is on and working.
