Answers not generating based on document uploaded in copilot studio

Hi all,

I have just started exploring copilot studio, One thing I have observed is when we pass public websites details or any other websites, it responds quicly when we chat with copilot. But if we upload document, it is not providing answers based on content present in document, May i know why ?

Anyone faced this issue before ?

Hi @Nived_Nambiar
There are a few questions:
Are you uploading files to the Published Copilot? Or is this inside the Studio?
What are the files you are trying to upload?

A few things to consider:
1. After uploading a file, it could take a few minutes for the copilot to use the file for answers.
2. This feature is still in Preview and may not be ready for Production use

I'm using the free copilot studio licence within our personal development environment and I'm experiencing the same issue. Any queries raised relating to web content are answered, any related to uploaded documents it simply doesn't know the answer. I left the files to index and waited over night and still nothing. Interested to hear any potential solutions.

How are you trying to trigger the Generative Answers?

I have uploaded a Excel file called ContosoSales.

When I ask my Copilot, my prompt is:

"What can you tell me about the Constoso Sales file?"

The Copilot tells me, next I can continue to ask questions:

"What Coffee machine sold the most last month?"

I've tried a few things, it only has access to one documents "What documents to you have access to?", "What can you tell me about X" (where X is the name of the document in question) and "Can you tell me more about Y" (Where Y is a specific section in the document that it should be able to reference". All examples yield the same response "I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to help with that. Can you try rephrasing?"

Hi @Jcook

Simmilar to what @Daniel_McMahon said, i was also facing same issue. When i tried it for first time, i thought it may take time as the model need to train with document so that it can answer question, But even after sometime , it is not providing any answer. Just answering with I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to help with that. Can you try rephrasing?

@Jcook [URGENT] My copilot bot is providing answers from the documents I have uploaded , however it is adding some more content to it which is not at all present in the documents I have uploaded. In our company we are trying to implement a tech support bot. And any incorrect information given by agent can be catastrophic. I am at the verge of loosing this project.

Dear Jcook, i am also facing the same issue. I created a custom copilot in studio and uploaded an excel data after that i published, it was working perfectly for 60% of my queries. But the same steps i followed for another file (Excel) which has my org level data (which i copy pasted to a different file, renamed, then uploaded and published). This is not giving me any answers based on the data.

Same i have done , still There is no responds. what can be the roadblock which is stopping the bot to retrieve the data(on org level restriction my question is, if i know this i can approach my team to give the access.

It boils to two things:

Copilot's limited capabilities
Data
Personally, I don't think Copilot is reliable enough at this stage. Try training GPT 3.5 or above on your data using Azure AI studio
