Can you please allow a personal (e.g. Hotmail) account to be used for Power Apps play/development/testing? I get the message "You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead." as I try to work through basic exercises (from the excellent App in a Day).

If I use my work account, the account is so locked down that nothing in Power Apps works.

I have a Visual Studio/MSDN subscription from work attached to my personal account. This works with general Azure, but when I navigate from Azure to Power Apps the account switches from personal to work, and once again I'm blocked.

I understand why this is frustrating. There is a post in the ideas forum that you can vote for here:

Power Apps works only with work accounts, in part because it needs to support ALM and data information security features (such as data loss prevention policies) - the features that are locking you down.

You can use your current work account to subscribe to the community plan. This will give you an independent developer environment that will provide you with more freedom.

Hi timl, thanks, I knew there was a community plan, but hadn't been able to link it to my work account. I've just succeeded - and I can now see my environment as well as my organisation's environment. I'll see how it goes. From first impressions the Power Platform technology seems great. However the restrictions and frustrations of using a work account make me despair, day after day ! I can't create modern apps when mobile and browser access is blocked.

One additional suggestion is to use an InPrivate window (in Edge) or Incognito (in Chrome) so you can use the account you want and avoid the auto login with your work credentials.

Hi Pat, thanks, I should have mentioned (for the benefit of others) that using InPrivate (in Edge) has been vital from the start of my Power Platform journey, which started a few weeks ago just before some App in a Day training. The training did not work for me initially and there were two parts to the solution (1) to use InPrivate browser sessions and (2) to use a third party Azure site - thanks Barhead for providing this. This third party site has been dismantled and re-used, and my Power Platform struggles now are in getting the exercises (labs) to work again. I'd like to do it using an unfettered personal account. As this is not permitted ("Use your work or school account instead") I'm left with trying to get a work account working but policies in the work environment have made this hard. Now (as at a few hours ago) I have a personal (my name) environment under the work account (courtesy of the Power Apps Community plan) and I'll be interested to see how much freedom I gain.
