A while back they view datasource was changed to be based on the container icon. This was for new apps and older apps still had the same view to the right

This was ok till very recently. All of a sudden I go view data sources to add a new one and the list of connection is blank. Nothing appears and the + (plus) icon does nothing. Is this a bug or is there another way now to do this?
