Change SharePoint Title Column to a dropdown

Hello,

I have recently created an App with a common data service (SP). When I go to create my form it always has the Title section, which SP automatically creates and is required.

Is there a way to change the type of information in the column to be a choice (drop down or yes/no)? either within SP or in PowerApps?

Please let me know if you know how to resolve this issue. Thanks

No, unfortunately you cannot change the data type of the automatically generated title column.  You will have to add new columns to your list if you want them to be choice or lookup columns.  I have to do this often.

    @LRVinNC

Is there a way that you can remove thte automatically generated title  or is it possible to change the name of the column? if this isnt an option, is it possible to implement an update function within PowerApps for the title and just have it display the users name or the name of the form? just some kind of option where you dont have to input anything into the title and it will still write information back to SP.

Sorry for all the questions. This feature confuses me and im trying to find the best solution to change it. Thanks

You could use the existing "Title" column in SharePoint within your PowerApp however within the Form control data card present it as a dropdown or a read only default value to logged in user name or other options depending upon your requirement

You can change the name in Sharepoint BUT that does not change the internal name of the column and it is the internal name you use in PowerApps which means you will still need to use Title when you refer to this.  This can be confusing to someone looking at the app and the list later if they don't know what you did.

You can change the label which appears on a datacard within PowerApps so that instead of displaying the name of the column (which is the default label for a data card) it can display whatever you want it to say.

And finally you can store whatever data you want in your title column. Often, I can store one of my text fields in that column. In some of my lists where I can't make use of the column, I simply store a unique GUID. You can auto generate one in PowerApps with GUID().  It can contain any single line of text value.

    Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Do you want to change the Title field within the Edit form into a Dropdown box with available options?

Based on the needs that you mentioned, I think the PowerApps Edit form could achieve your needs. I have made a test on my side, please take a try with the following workaround:8.JPG

On your side, you please go to your Edit form, then select the Title Data card in your Edit form, then click Edit Field in right panel (Step 2). Within the expanded Fields list, select the Title field, then change the Control Type to "Allowed Values".

Please check the following GIF screenshot for more details:Test.gif

After that, you could specify available option values (table value) within the Items property of the Title Dropdown box to populate the Title Dropdown box. e.g. Set the Items property of the Title Dropdown box to following:

    ["PowerApps", "Power BI", "MS Flow"]

    Best regards,

Thank You so much, I have transitioned from using Excel to Sharepoint as a backend and never had this problematic title column to contend with. I doubt I would have worked it out without your help.
