Access permission to Dataverse Business Unit and Teams Shared Channel

I have a model-driven app with a few Business Units to control access - let's say default/root BU, BU A and BU B. People who have access to BU A will need access to a Shared Channel in a Teams team. What is the most efficient way to manage the access the BU and channel? Security group?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Yes, using security groups would be an efficient way to manage access to both the Business Units (BUs) in your model-driven app and the Shared Channel in Microsoft Teams. Here's a suggested approach:

    1. Create Security Groups:

      • Create security groups in Azure Active Directory (AAD) for each Business Unit (BU) and the Shared Channel.
      • For example, you could have security groups named "BU A Users", "BU B Users", and "Shared Channel Access".
    2. Assign Permissions to Security Groups:

      • Assign appropriate permissions to each security group in your model-driven app. This ensures that users assigned to these groups have access to the relevant Business Units.
      • Similarly, in Microsoft Teams, grant access to the Shared Channel to the corresponding security groups.
    3. Manage Membership:

      • Add users to the appropriate security groups based on their role and access requirements.
      • When users are added or removed from these security groups, their access to the model-driven app and the Shared Channel will be automatically updated.
    4. Ensure Synchronization:

      • Make sure that your security groups are synchronized with your model-driven app and Microsoft Teams. This ensures that access control remains consistent across both platforms.
    5. Regular Review:

      • Periodically review and update the membership of your security groups to ensure that access permissions remain up-to-date and aligned with the organization's requirements.

By using security groups, you can efficiently manage access to both your model-driven app and the Shared Channel in Microsoft Teams, while also providing flexibility to adjust permissions as needed in the future.

@AllanDeCastro thanks for the response. I did some more search and it seemed it is not possible to assign a security group to a Teams shared channel. Am I missing anything?
