List of default icons in model driven app

I'm creating a model-driven app and I want to select some default icon to show in the site map. As default there is a jig-saw puzzle icon that I want to change for example to led icon. This led icon is available in one Power Apps template app called "Innovation challenge" and looks like this:

I just don't know what is the name of this icon as in the template app site map designer the icon is just referred as "Use Default Image".

When I go to my own model-driven app clear the name of "Use Default Image" and scroll the icon drop down menu it only shows the names of default icons, but no any thumbnails or anything. So my question is that is there any place to browse this library of default icons to see the icons visually in one view so I don't need to try each of these individually and see the how it looks in the app?

    Hi @Anonymous ,

You could use XrmToolBox and Iconator tool.

Thank you for the tip! I managed to install XrmToolBox, the Iconator tool and to connect to both the demo app and to my own app, but both are showing some boring win-95 style icons and not the ones that are available from the site map editor. So I got this far:

Did you get any further?  I'm at the same location, confused.

Short answer: no — Microsoft doesn’t provide a visual gallery for the built-in sitemap icons.

In model-driven apps, the sitemap icon dropdown only exposes the internal icon names, not previews, and there’s currently no official place to browse them visually.

A few important clarifications that usually cause confusion here:

    • The icon used in the Innovation Challenge template is not a special sitemap icon you can select by name.

    • It’s a web resource image packaged with that solution.

    • That’s why it shows as “Use Default Image” in the sitemap designer — it’s pointing to a hidden PNG web resource, not to a standard Dataverse icon.

So you won’t find a name like “LED”, “Idea”, or “Lightbulb” in the default list.

    What options you actually have

Option 1 — Add your own icon (recommended)
This is exactly how the template app does it.

    1. Create or download a PNG or SVG icon (32×32 or 16×16 works best).

    2. Upload it as a Web Resource.

    3. In the sitemap designer:

      • Clear “Use Default Image”

      • Select your web resource image

This gives you full control and avoids guessing icon names.

Option 2 — Extract the icon from the template app

If you really want the exact Innovation Challenge icon:

    1. Open the solution that contains the template app.

    2. Go to Web Resources.

    3. You’ll find image files like:

      • icon_idea.png

      • innovation.png

      • similar naming

You can export that web resource and import it into your own solution.

    About the built-in icon list

    The default dropdown icons are:

    • legacy Dynamics 365 sitemap icons

    • referenced only by internal names

    • not documented

    • not previewable

    • inconsistent across environments

    Microsoft has never published:

    • an icon catalogue

    • a thumbnail viewer

    • a mapping of name → image

So unfortunately there is no “browse all icons visually” experience today.

    Practical recommendation

    In real projects:

    • Don’t rely on default sitemap icons

    • Use SVG/PNG web resources

    • Keep them in a shared “Icons” solution

That’s exactly what Microsoft does internally for template apps.

    Summary

    • ❌ No visual library exists for default sitemap icons

    • ❌ Innovation Challenge icon is not selectable by name

    • ✅ It’s a web resource image inside the template solution

    • ✅ Best practice is to upload your own icon as a web resource
