Matrix-Organization set up in CDS Organizations

I''m a newbie for MDA in PowerApps and I'd like to use the CDS as it was planned to. I'm doing my first MDA Test now. With several other things (new entities, customize current entities) I have no issue but I struggle with setting up an organizational structure for a matrix organization (Top Division, Product Groups belonging to the Division, Product units belonging to the Product Groups, and this Product units could be representative in 1 or more sites, and per country there could existing 1 or more sites). Any idea? Thanks a lot to open my knot here 🙂

    Hi @BrunoT_CH,

Have a read about business units in CDS. This is a way to segregate your data and configure security requirements based on "groups/structures". It's meant represent the security structure rather reflect your organization structure, but if your security/privacy requirements align with your organization's structure then you would configure business units as per your structure. A simple example is your Product Groups work (mostly) in silos and data should not be shared between them. Product Group A should sees/manages their own stuff, Group B their own and so on. Here's a bit more info on business units: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/wp-security-cds.

You can also configure by organization structure by teams if security requirement are more loose and don't require complex business unit structure. You can't have a hierarchy of Teams, but users can be part of >1 team. More on teams: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/manage-teams

Otherwise if what you're looking for is to configure the products and services your organisation manages, then out-of-the-box CDS there are no entities by default. You'll need Dynamics 365 for Sales or Dynamics 365 for Customer Service which comes with product management and pricing capabilities, but this requires additional licenses. The alternative is configuring this with custom entities.

    Hope this helps!

    Many thanks Eric

Your valuable statements confirm my assumptions. And I'll test the teams approach or set up own entities for the mock-up, made life easier. Was a good hint with the security topic on business units, many thanks that for.
