Canvas app starter basic questions

I m new to Canvas apps have web experience. My questions are very basic, kindly guide me:

There are two layouts in Canvas Apps (tablet and mobile). Can't I use one on other device ? If I have a mobile app will it not work on tablet ? What I will be missing ?

Are Canvas apps responsive out of box or we need to take care of responsiveness ? Will my tablet or mobile layout not responsive out of box ?

Hi @John-Y ,

Tablet apps work fine on phone if you have good eyesight for the small fonts resulting in the landscape view and phone layout works fine on a tablet and displays in a portrait mode. Both of course work on PCs.

If I want to make an app responsive, I start with tablet layout and in Settings > Display turn off Scale to Fit and Lock Orientation. Use responsive containers for layout as they behave the same as flex-box in CSS. You can also reference the screen size to format according to set screen widths.

Does it means tablet app is not responsive on phone and it remains (landscape) and do not comes to one column ?

@John-Y ,

I do not use responsive canvas sizes (never found it necessary - I only use dynamic controls, sizes/location etc), so I am probably the wrong person to ask
