Accessing Audit logs... Where are they??

I am getting a bit frustrated trying to access the audit log to perform a search.

Ultimately I was hoping to utilize the Office 365 Management Activity API and work towards extracting, and offloading the Activity Logs to external storage so as to ease our storage capacity. But I'm stuck even at step 1 trying to find where i can do a manual search.

Has this option been deprecated? Im assured that I have full admin status, but that's within Power Apps. Would it be a seperate case for Dynamics 365? I cannot find where I could even turn on the Audit Log search, and my understanding is that it should be on by default.

I am new to the organization and haven't figured out exactly what our subscriptions all entail yet. My mentor is currently unavailable.

Screenshot from MS 365 documentation outlining my general goal as a possibility.

What it should look like according to MS documentation

What I find when I use a direct link to the Audit log, all the fields are greyed out and inactive.

Just would really appreciate some advice from anyone if this is an Admin permissions issue, or if I am chasing a ghost here and the Audit log search is no longer available. Some of the documentation seems very recent showing this as a possibility.

This article for instance, appears to have been published today and references the Audit log

Search the audit log in the Microsoft 365 compliance center - Microsoft 365 Compliance | Microsoft Docs

Also could it be an issue with it being Dynamics 365 Admin vs Power Platform Admin?

Thanks for any advice

Hi, are you looking for the audit logs of Dynamics 365 (Dataverse) or those of Microsoft 365 (Office/SharePoint)? I think they are not the same and are reached differently...

    Hi @pompousROB ,

That is because you are not having global admin access.

Either you should have global admin access or in Exchange online required permission is needed.

Try once with Global admin access.

Unfortunately, there is no button there for me. The option to navigate to the drop down menu isn't even there.

It was only by navigating directly to the audit search page from a tutorial in the MS documentation that I was even able to view that page.

    Hi @pompousROB ,

    Logon to https://compliance.microsoft.com/auditlogsearch?viewid=Test%20Tab

    Navigate to Audit.

If you are a global admin or user with one of the compliance role assigned , you should see start recording users and admin Activity button as shown below,
