Why do dependent combo boxes invalidate my form?

I have the typical edit form. At least I think it is typical. There a few areas where I have dependent combo boxes. All seem to work fine with the exception of one set.

  1. I can select the first combo box without issue.
  2. The second(dependent) combo box filters properly
  3. Both of the combo boxes are required
  4. For a brief moment, after selecting an item in the second combo box, the form is valid but then reverts to being invalid. I know this because the submit button is set to disabled unless the form is valid. I've also included a label that tells me if the form is valid or not (true/false). However, there is one item in the second combo box that always toggles the form to valid and stays that way.
  5. If I remove the dependency then the form validates regardless of selections in either of the combo boxes.
  6. I also tried recreating those two data cards with the combo boxes(and disabled the old ones). Same issue exists although none of the selections make the form valid.
  7. If I remove the logic on the submit button which puts it in edit mode. If I submit, after all the required fields are filled, the screen advances to the next screen but the record is not saved. There are no warnings that the form is invalid and no indications where the error might be.

I'm kind of at my wits end here. I am half ready to scrap the entire form and start over if weren't for all the stylization and custom coding that already exists. Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

As usual the answer was something simple.

I am not sure why the error messages were not showing but I managed to get them to show. This is when I discovered that an HTML text box was causing the issue. This HTML box was designed to take values from various combo and text boxes and concatenated them into a single string. It turns out that that the column in the table that the value was written too was only allowing for 100 characters. This is why the one combo box combination worked. The combination was small enough to keep the HTML text field from exceeding 100 characters. Once I increased the column size in the table then all was well.
