850 Max Length on Primary Name Text Field?

So the documentation clearly states that the max length for a Single Line of Text column should be 4000 characters. But for this one column in the attached screenshot, it isn't letting me increase it over 850 characters! I can't find any references to this limit in the documentation or other blogs, but it looks like the primary name column has that limit in all my tables now that I'm looking into it. Can anyone else confirm this limitation? Or provide reference material that documents it?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @GB-Andworx

Since Primary column is part of database index, max size for this 850 characters.... for other normal text columns you can go up to 4000 characters..

Thanks @MayankP. That sounds right, though I wish the documentation was more upfront about this limitation. The best I can sort out is:

    1. According to Configure Dataverse search to improve search results and performance - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn, Primary Name is automatically included in the Dataverse index by default

    2. According to Maximum capacity specifications for SQL Server - SQL Server | Microsoft Learn, there's a 900 byte limit for a clustered index. Since this is the closest number I could find to the 850 character limit the GUI returns, I assume the Primary Name is flagged as a clustered index behind-the-scenes.
