Select multiple Users in a Model Driven app

Is it possible to select multiple Users in a Model Driven app? I am trying to create an Approval Table where each Subject can have multiple approvers.

I have tried creating a lookup to the User Table, but this results in a N:1 (Approvers:Users) relationship.

I have tried creating a N:N  relationship but then can't utilise a specific column in the User Table, like the users Name.

This is out the box in SharePoint but I can't figure it out in Dataverse and looking online it doesn't seem possible.

Any help appreciated.

    Hi @Carl__D ,

I think you need to potentially consider 'decomposing' your conceptual N:N relationship into 1:N and N:1 by introducing a custom intersect table between the two.

    Hello Carl_D,

You should be able to use a PCF control on a many to many relationship such as one of these:

    PolyLookup | PCF Gallery

Custom NToN Multiselect Lookup | PCF Gallery

Thank you both for your replies!

I am not to familiar with PCF Controls yet so would like to explore if an intersect table would meet the requirements initially.

@parvezghumra, any further guidance on how to build this would be appreciated.

    I currently have an:

    • 'Approval' table, which has a Lookup 'Approver' column to the,
    • 'User' table
    • And have just created a 'User Intersect' table

    Are you suggesting:

    • 'Approval should lookup to the 'User Intersect' table
    • And create a Relationship between 'User' and 'User Intersect' table as N-1

    Thanks

    Hi Carl_D,

Understood! But I suggest you become familiar with these, as they are awesome! They can really enhance your model driven app. Here is a Microsoft Learn article about them: Introduction to Power Apps component framework - Training | Microsoft Learn

It's a quick read and will give you the gist of how they work.

    Thank you @rfainter123 , I'll have a read through now 🙂

    @Carl__D Almost!

Essentially what you need a custom intersect table called 'Approval User' (as an example). It should have:

    1. A lookup to User

    2. A lookup to Approval

You can delete the lookup to User that you have created on your Approval table.

Then on your Approval main form for the Model Driven App, you can add a subgrid of 'Approval Users'

Similarly on your User main form for the Model Driven App, you can add a subgrid of 'Approval Users'
