Resolving Connection References for Flows deployed via AppSource

Is anyone out there familiar with this?

Scenario:

  • Customer is planning to acquire a product from AppSource that includes a Power App and Flows.
  • The Flows refer to Connection References for Dataverse (legacy) and Dataverse.
  • Customer admin creates new environment and sets up two SPN-based Connections.
  • Customer admin installs product from AppSource, however, there is no opportunity to assign Connection References to SPN-based connections in the environment.

Result:

  • Customer admin has to have a license for the Flows to activate
  • Connections are generated using the admin's credentials
  • Customer admin has to edit each Flow to use the SPN-based connections

This is a bad experience. Anyone have a better way?

Ah. Missed that in your subject line. I haven't tested from App Source, can't be much help to you there.

Thanks @cchannon, I don't believe this is the case yet when deploying solutions from AppSource.

    Am I mistaken?

When you import a solution that contains connection references from the Modern UI, it will prompt you to refresh the connections during import. The Classic UI that does not.

For anyone that faces this or a similar issue, we have settled on the need for a post-installation step:

    • The administrator must go into the Default Solution of the environment and remap Connection References to the desired SPN-based connections (then publish, of course).

This avoids the need to edit any Flows. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to do this at installation time in the future.
