Hi. I have a canvas app I am building. The backend is a SharePoint list. There are three different people columns in my list. One for names of nominees, one for who is nominating the individual(s), and one for the nominees supervisors. The nominated by column can only be one person. The other two can be one person or more. When the nominated by column does not match the Nominees supervisor column I need a workflow to send an email to the supervisor and ask them for concurrence. I have a workflow that works but it only works when there's one supervisor listed and one nominee or one supervisor and multiple nominees. It does not work when there is multiple supervisors and multiple nominees. There can be up to 20 different nominees and 20 different supervisors. I tried creating multiple different supervisor columns and multiple different name of nominees columns, but SP cant have more than 12 lookup columns so this option won't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? Still fairly new to creating apps and flows so any tips would be helpful! Let me know if anyone needs additional information on this!
Why doesn't your flow work when there is more than one supervisor listed? If you're using the approval action that can support waiting for all supervisors to respond.
I should add that creating more columns would definitely be the wrong way to go.
I have never used the approvals portion of power automate before, does it allow for the flow to analyze each nominee with each different supervisor? For example, if I submitted a nomination for bob, sue, and billy, but listed each of their supervisors as Bob Sup= Mary, Sue's Sup= Jill, and Billy's Sup= Chris? And all of these be within the same SP record?
That sounds like you want three separate nomination approvals. In that case, you could use an Apply to Each action with parallelism turned on so all of the approvals start at the same time.
But if you want the nominations each be approved separately by their manager, why would you want them to be on the same SharePoint record? It would be a lot easier to track the statuses if you create separate records for each nominee on your SharePoint list from the start.
Yeah, I know. It is just what a customer is wanting. They are "team" nominations so they want them all to be on the same record if that makes sense
They can have up to 20 different team members and each one can have a different supervisor so it makes it a little more complex as well.
Then have one list be your parent entity "Nomination" and then create a separate list which has many "Nominee" items for each Nomination. That way there is one overall nomination but you can handle the nominee approvals on separate records.
