Page Production vs Licensing

Hi All,

I'm a bit confused about the power page / portal life cycle.

I'm under the impression that if I want the site longer than 30 days, I will have to convert it to a production site. And according to MS, I should be licensing it as soon as it is converted to production.

The assumption here is that I would be developing the site in a dev/sandbox env and publishing it to a production environment where my portal licenses will be assigned to.

Can someone shed some light on this? Does this mean I also have to license any sandbox/dev versions of my portal to keep them around?

Is converting to production just telling MS not to delete this trial site?

A sandbox environment is a non-production environment that you can use for development, testing, or training purposes.

A production environment is an environment that you use for your business operations.

Developer sites for creating and testing Power Pages websites without consuming any licenses or storage. However, you can’t create developer websites on a trial, sandbox, or production Microsoft Dataverse environments. You also need to be aware of the restrictions and limitations of developer websites.

Converting to production doesn't just telling Microsoft not to delete your trial site. It also means that you are changing the environment type and the features of your site. For example, a production website will have a different URL, storage capacity, and security settings than a trial website. ref
