How does one achieve a certain number format for say a telephone number now that Input Mask has been retired?

You can use PFCs, which are development tools that allow you to create development components in your applications, here on this page there are already some developed and you can use them

@Tango You can create a Javascript function to work on that, you will be able to apply on the onload() and Onchange().
