Managed solution - canvas app cannot find data source

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I've imported a managed solution into my production environment. There are three SharePoint lists used as the data sources of the canvas app in this solution and I added these and the SharePoint site as environment variables. On import I selected all three from the correct SharePoint site. However, on playing the canvas app I get the following error:

The specified record was not found. Server Response: <listname> failed: List not found clientRequestId:

I have tried updating the solution, deleting it and starting again, republishing the app in dev. Is there anything else to try?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @Anonymous,

Here is a video step by step on how to setup SharePoint data source environment variables and use them in flows and apps. Did you follow the same steps and ensure the following?

    • Create environment variables of Data source type for your site and lists and associate them to your SharePoint connection reference
    • In your Canvas App, select the environment variable when choosing your data source for SharePoint (under the Advanced tab)
    • In the environment variable in dev, clear out current site/ current list values so it forces you to choose values when Importing the solution to another environment

Hi @ChrisPiasecki , thanks for the quick response. I did follow all these steps. It worked fine in the dev and test environments but the SharePoint site was different. Is there any way I can see what the environment variable is set to in a managed solution? Perhaps that could give me a clue as to the issue.

    Hi @Anonymous,

If you go to the default solution, you can find your environment variable there and see its value (and even change the value, but I would avoid doing this as a best practice).

Have you also ensured your different SharePoint sites have the exact same lists present in both?

    Hi @ChrisPiasecki

    Yes, I've checked.

I had a look at my canvas app in the default environment. Even though I had selected the environment variables as the data sources, this hasn't saved correctly. Instead its displaying the data sources from my sandbox site, which is why it doesn't work in production. When I try to add them again, it's saying I don't have any set up.

I've raised a support call with MS to investigate further.

Will update when I have a solution.

So when I first attempted to select environment variables as the data sources for my canvas app, I believe I didn't click on 'Advanced' after selecting the SharePoint site.  I must have selected the actual lists rather than EVs which meant that there was a conflict between data sources in my Prod environment.

There is now an option to choose the EV instead of the list, but I believe it is still best to go to 'Advanced'.

The other issue I had was that no EVs were showing up when I went back to the canvas app. When I clicked into one of the EVs in the solution, it came up with a connection error. I managed to save it and when I went back to the app the EVs showed up.
