Hi All,

I have created a application (model driven app) for workorders and have the following tables:

  • Project
  • Project Phase
  • Workorder

I would like to create a view that shows all the workorders grouped by Project and Project Phase.

I have created a view with the "Power Apps Grid Control" Compontent, I am able to group by the workorder but i cannot group by the lookup fields. Next to that you can only group by one colomn but preferably i would like to group by multiple colomns like so:

Project (lookup) Project Phase (lookup) Workorder
Project 1 Phase 1 Wo-1

Wo-2
  Phase 2 Wo-3
    Wo-4
Project 2 Phase 3 Wo-5

I know you can create a nested view with a subgrid but as far as i know you cannot do that for multiple relations. Any ideas to solve this? The only option i can think of is creating a pcf component or canvas app and embed it into the application. I hope there is or will be a native function for this.

Kind regards,
Arjan

Group by (lookup field) and use on multiple fields.
Power Apps Grid Control currently has limitations in grouping lookup fields and supporting multi-level grouping.

    Approach 1 - Calculated Column
    • Calculated Column in the Workorder Table.
    • Concatenate the Project Name and Phase Name.
    • Use This Column for Grouping.
Approach 2 - Custom Component PCF

Approach 3 - Canvas App with Nested Galleries
    • Level 1 - Display distinct Projects.
    • Level 2 - Filters by Project and displays Phases.
    • Level 3 (Inside 2) - Workorders for the selected Project & Phase.
    Approach 4 - Power BI
    • If you need it only for visualization you can use the Power BI grouped by Project and Phase you can use Table or Matrix.
    • Simple and Straight Forward.
