Your session has ended

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to PowerApps app sessions ending prematurely for end users? I have looked at the forum and it seems that people have been having this issue for a number of years with no confirmed solution.

I have read this document which says that the maximum session time is 1440 minutes. I have set this to 1440 minutes but my end users are reporting their sessions ending after 8 hours. I have verified this by letting opening the app at the beginning of the day and the session ended after 8 hours. The document seems to suggest that some sort of dialog box will appear allowing users to refresh their session but none of my users have seen this pop up. Have I misunderstood this article?

I have had made sure that their computers aren't locking due to inactivity so I am pretty sure PowerApps is causing the user sessions to end.

To make the app easy for my users to use, I would like sessions to last indefinitely or at least allow the user to refresh their sessions after the 24 hour period is up. Most of the time my users are just referring to text or pictures on the screen while they work so they don't "actively" interact with the screen. If the dialog box actually appeared I could program the computer to click in that location 24 hours later but that sort of work around is pretty silly.

I have read @RandyHayes 's response in the second post but I can't tell if his solution addresses user inactivity or session length.

I want to make using the app as smooth as possible for my users and issues like this make buy-in difficult. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

I would encourage you to submit a ticket to resolve your issue. If you record the session and app Id of the app that isn't staying open, they might see something behind the scenes to help you with.
When I talked to them, they told me to clear the cache of the browser or swap to another browser to run the app. Doing either of those things did not resolve my issue. The ticket was ultimately close with them telling me that "although environment sessions can be adjusted on the environment configuration panel, customized active sessions cannot be modified for PowerApps Canvas app yet.".
Since that conversation the issue did resolve itself, but it wasn’t clear what I or Microsoft did to resolve it. It would be helpful for someone on the development team to explain what is causing the app to close rather than us to speculate.

    Re: Your session has ended

I believe I am experiencing this again.  I had it fixed for most of last year but it is happening again.   The powerapp I have built appears to be timing out at 1440.

I had it working and not sure why it does not anymore.

the solution was to use  launch replace in the app to restart the powerapp and also have a browser refresh program going.

my issue is I don’t remeber what the timings were.

the powerapp timer relaunched the app like every 10 minutes and the browser I believe was refreshing every 30.

the confusing part is that in a attempt to get it working I set the browser app to refresh every 2 minutes which appears to restart the app and not allow the timer within the app to work.

I tried just the timer within the powerapp only and that also only worked for a day.

Anyone have any insight on what powerapps needs to happen for the timeout session timer to restart?

    Re: Your session has ended

All of the computers I cleared the cache and cookies on did not last longer than 8 hours. I did have to re-login and afterwards let them run. They should last 24 hours before ending the session. I tested this with updated versions of Chrome (92.0.4515.107) and Edge (92.0.902.62). Have you had this issue before? Did forcing the user to re-login fix the issue for you?

I have confirmed that everyone is using Edge 92.0.902.62. I have cleared the cache on half of the computers. I will run the app and see how it performs now.

After you made these changes here

did you try to clear all cache and cookies on the users' browsers who still have the previous expiration value, then instruct them to sign in again anew to see if this resolves the problem?

Also to check if using latest version, Chrome 92.0.4515.107 or Edge 92.0.902.55 as of this writing - if it is not that version, to update the browser - and then retry the above as well after that.
