Custom Connector: how to use "References"?

I'm using a custom connector to access data from a web API and I wanna have reuseable paramters in my actions.

On the "3. Definition"-Tab there are "References" for this functionality

but I can't find a description, how to define those "References" and how to use them.

Where can I find this?

I have the same question (0)

I am not aware of any documentation. Keith skips over that in his video https://youtu.be/cSzI093-xgk

I've been working on Custom Connectors recently and discovered the answer to this.

References were introduced in Open API v3 as far as I can tell.

However Custom Connectors area based on Open API v2 see the note on this page 😞

A better question may be why does the interface display unsupported options ?

Is there an update on this?

I think you can use references, but not nested/recursive references..(i.e. reference that refer to another reference), but its pure speculation as the importing errors are not exactly helpful.

Custom connectors documentation make it out as if the connectors support swagger/oas2, but doesn't make it clear that it actually means that its just the tool used to create custom connectors (almost) supports it, the connector itself does not. Custom connectors should have been marked as "preview" if this was the case, that way power platform advocates and early adopters wouldn't have to constantly defend these shortcomings to pro developers in their organizations.

That looks like it may be the case.....  I'm using Visual Code to create a custom connector at the moment, and the extension I use (I think it's the swagger extension) reports the following:-

"Swagger $ref's should only point to objects immediatly under #/definitions, #/parameters, and #/responses."

    Including the spelling mistake 😉

I'll let you know how I get on with flattening the structure - it's a 23k line file so may take a while!

    @philstubbington
FYI there is a 1MB size limit when uploading a definition file in the web UI, but when updating or creating a connector with the CLI-tool (paconn) the limitation error seems to be 500 k characters in length. This may have changed recently, but regardless, if there are multiple issues with the definition, you may not get more than a limited number of errors. I suggest that you test with a smaller set of methods first. Otherwise you may be in for a world of tedious repetitive pain, speaking of experience 😄

There seem to be several limits - I’ve already been through a lot of that tedious repetitive pain you speak of! I’ll see how I get on with the latest iteration 🙂
