Hi all,

I have read the documents about Teams and Business Units in an Environment with Dataverse.

However, I still don't grasp the what and why on these topics

Teams:

  • What:
  • Why you should use it:

Business Units:

  • What:
  • Why you should use it:

Thanks in advance!

    Hi @Ionaaa ,

Thanks for the information! Each business unit can now be assigned security roles to access specific datasets and field, like the financials for sales. --> this sentence perfectly describes the why, which was not clear for me.

It's all about security structures and hierarchy.

A business unit is a collection of teams, and a collection of business units is a management group i.e. organization.

For a general company this would translate to:

    A business unit for marketing
    A business unit for finance
    A business unit for warehouse

The finance business unit can have several teams:

    Sales administrative
    Sales account managers

Each business unit can now be assigned security roles to access specific datasets and field, like the financials for sales.

The sales account manager team can have access to account and activities, while sales administration needs access to financial numbers.

So when to use business units and teams is up to you, if you want to model your company its a great idea to use business units and child business units.
If you only have specific people already in your environments, Teams can be used to focus on specific actions, like admins as a team, people making apps, you name it.

    Creativity is key.
