Trigger Phrases Not Working in Copilot Studio

Hi Microsoft Community,

I'm currently facing an issue with Microsoft Copilot Studio, where trigger phrases defined in my topic are not working as expected. When I test the chatbot or use the published version, it doesn’t recognize or respond to the phrases I've set up to initiate the topic.

Here are some details:

Environment: Teams

Bot Name: Charlie

What I’ve Tried:
- Verified that the trigger phrases are published.
- Tested in both authoring canvas and live environment.
- Checked for typos and variations in phrasing.
- Ensured the topic is enabled and not overlapping with others.

Despite this, the bot fails to activate the topic when the exact or similar trigger phrases are entered.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions for troubleshooting? Could this be a bug, or is there something specific I might be missing in the configuration?

The picture doesn't really show the topic with the triggers, can you share what the entire Trigger and phrases etc are please

hello, i can't see the screenshot but this question if a frequent one

That come from people think trigger phrase are "small prompt", and yes it s called "phrase".... but no. It's the old system, it s supposed to understand sentences but it really depend on the contexte, word orders, etc etc.

Before the "AI everywhere era" you needed about 100 to 200 alternative of a trigger sentence to have a topic work in most chatbot solution (i m not speaking about microsoft here)... so i m trying to explain to you why, trigger sentence are not 100% accurate : the system want a lot of alternative

The good answer is to activate the genAI mod + orchestration and if possible enhanced search. It 's game changer and since Microsoft divided by 10 the cost of those feature in messages consume, most of my consumer are switching on it and why : because it replace trigger sentence by prompt ! and it s impressive how it work better :)

I've was able to repro it, indeed if i have configured knowledge let say a list of groceries and their price and if i configure a topic with phrases related with groceries it takes by default the Knowlege base, consider adding more phrases to trigger this custom topic or. turn on the Orchestration AI I give to that topic a detailed trigger so it will trigger first
