What does the acronym DMTS stand for?

Hi all,

Here’s another question that’s related to the on-premises gateway. In the error message I received when installing the gateway, I notice the error message was prefixed with the acronym DMTS.

If you Google the phrase “DMTS Microsoft”, there are many references to error messages that begin with DMTS.

What does DMTS stand for, or which component of the Power platform, PowerApps, or Azure would raise a DMTS exception?

The reason I ask is because if I or someone else were to receive a ‘DMTS’ error in future, understanding what this means could help us better locate the exact source.

Here’s a related question on SO.

Many thanks...

I can't point to anything official, but I do know that these errors are always associated with a gateway. For Gateways I know that DTS stands for Date Transformation Services. So I believe that DMTS stands for Data Management Transformation Services.

    Thanks @Pstork1. That sounds plausible.

So judging by error stack traces we sometimes see, I'm guessing that behind the scenes, the on-premises gateway uses the classes in the Microsoft.SqlServer.DTS namespace to carry out the data transfer...

    Hi @timl ,

See if you have meed the below prerequisites:

    Minimum:

    Recommended:

    • 8 Core CPU
    • 8 GB Memory
    • 64-bit version of Windows Server 2012 R2 (or later)

    Related considerations:

    • You can't install a gateway on a domain controller.
    • You shouldn't install a gateway on a computer, such a laptop, that may be turned off, asleep, or not connected to the Internet.
    • Gateway performance might suffer over a wireless network.

    Regards,

    Mona

It is probably some sort of authentication component.  The last two characters probably represent "token service" (ie. a temporary value that is serialized to a small time-limited token, and represents your identity and permissions).

The funny thing is that we see these "DMTS" errors all the time, but they probably represent internal bugs, and Microsoft probably never intended for these messages to be exposed to users.  Alternatively they intended the "DMTS" word to be used as error codes, which was supposed to be translated (localized) in a way that can be understood by users (yet Microsoft didn't ever get around to the work of producing the variation of the error that can be understood.)
