Choice List Errors when added to Form

Hello,

I have a SharePoint list that has a Choice column.  When I add this column to an entry form in PowerApps I immediatly recevie two errors.  I am not sure how to get around either of these errors.  The errors are preventing the drop down box from opperating as expected.

1. The funcion 'Choices' has some invalid arguments.  The Items control has the following function "Choices('List Name'.Field_x20020_Name).

2. Name isn't Valid.  This identifier isn't recognized.  The error appears most commonly when a folrmula refers to something that no longer exists.

Does anyone have a hint at what might be going on here?  The field exists and is auto-populated from my data source.

Thanks,

Matt

What do you mean it is "auto-populated" like you have a default value set on the SPList?

If that is the case that is your problem there. I can't remember why that doesn't work in PowerApps but it doesn't. If it is the default you want with the option to change than remove it from the default in your SP List and make it as the DefaultSelectedItems for your dropdown. (if you choose this route there is a good chance you will have to delete the card and put it back)

If you want it to always be the default and don't want it changed on that form just remove the card...you don't need it and SP will store the data without the card being in PowerApps.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply.  What I mean by auto-populated is that the names on the datacards are auto-created when you add the field to the form.  So I don't understand why error #2 is telling me that the field does not exist.

Do you have your settings on that column of your sharepoint list turned on to "Allow 'Fill-in' choices ?

It will only alow you to choose from the preset choices if that is not on.

No, fill in is not turned on.  The choice options are pre-configured on the list.

So, just to make sure I am understanding right...

This is a choices column on your sharepoint list, and it doesn't have anything special on it...just a simple choice column?

What part is 'auto-created' that you are referring to?

When you Create a new form you link it to a data source.  You then select the columns that you want displayed on the form.  The Data Cards and their associated names and values are auto-created by PowerApps.  If the data card corresponds to a Choice column then the control displays the error:

"Name isn't valid.  This identifier isn't recognized.  This error appears most commonly when a formula refers to something that no longer exists (for example, a contol that you've deleted)."

    - The location of this error is DataCardValue3.Items.
    - When I look at DataCardValue3.Items I see the following function "Choices('Data Source'.Field_x0020_Name)".  It is grayed out and cannot be edited.

All of my Apps I make pretty much are tied to SharePoint so I know how all it works but sometimes it does pull in the wrong formatting and stuff so just because they "auto-created" it doesn't mean it is correct.

I don't like the choice column...it is the most picky of all. I used to use it a lot and the last 10 apps I did I managed to not use it all and do text fields and then code the options into PowerApps instead.

That being said, only things I can say to confirm is the DataField and Default of the card are correct. (If you have ever changed that column name in SharePoint it will not pull in correct, you will have to force it) and then on the

Combo Box the DefaultSelectedItems should be Parent.Default

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I am not certain what the problem could be.

If you have ever modifed any of your column names on your sharepoint list and need to know how to confirm that let me know and I can send you that.

    Best of luck!

    Hi @Brownmattc,

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue on my side. The screenshot as below:7.JPG

Note: The Status column is a Choice type column in my SP list.

Please check if you have modified the Choice column name within your SP list.

If the issue still exists, please consider take a try to add a new Choice type column in your SP list and remove the old Choice column from your SP list, generate an app from your SP list, check if the issue still exists.

You could also consider take a try to re-create a new SP list on your side, then generate an app from it, check if the issue is solved.

    Best regards,

    Kris

@v-xida-msft Hello, I think this is a bug. I've seen many people are facing this issue (myself, too) and it is really annoing. I added an issue, too and there is still no explanation to this.

I bet that if @Brownmattc tries to cancel just the last ) and rewrites it, it will work fine (at least this does the trick for me) the problem is that I have to do it every time this error appears and it's quite often.

    Any ideas?

Is there any way that can resolve this bug? Sometimes it works sometimes it's not, it's kinda annoying.
    Thank you
