Moving data from default environment

Back when we started to build our Model Driven Apps and data structures we have limited knowledge of the use of environments. Hence, we built everything in the default environment, and now we have a TON of data there and we spent 1000+ man hours to populate our system with the business data we needed.

However, we realized now, that there are no backup option in the default environment which is a huge risk. I tried to export or copy the default environment to a different one where we don't have to deal with the constraints of the default environtment, however seemingly it is impossible.

Are there any ways to copy the data out of our CDS to a different environment? Or ANY solution to this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

    HI @peter_inspyre ,

Have you already created a solution and exported the solution from the default environment to a Sandbox or Production environment and you are really looking to migrate the data now?

Microsoft provides an article on utilizing Dataflows for this type of situation:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/data-platform/dataverse-odata-dataflows-migration

The primary tool I would honestly utilize to migrate the data would probably be something like eOne SmartConnect and there are many others like Scribe, KingswaySoft, and others as well.  This would be a migration of your data because as you mentioned you cant take a copy of the default environment and move it to Sandbox or Production type environments.

Depending on amount of tables you could even try to do Excel Export and Import but it sounds like this would be a challenge with the number of hours you have put in here and I assume the number of tables.

Sorry, I know of no approach other than data migration here as mentioned in the options above.

Hope this helps.  Please accept if answers your question or Like if helps in any way.

    Thanks,

    Drew
