Anyone know how to use theme colors in custom CSS?

Greetings, all. I am adding custom CSS for a dropdown on my site and am trying to reference the site's theme colors. I see that the portalbasictheme.css file has theme colors like so:

I can't figure out how to reference those in my custom CSS class:

Anyone have any ideas? Figure this is really simple and I'm overlooking something.

And I already figured out the answer. Looked at the footer content snippet and found I had to include var() around the theme color reference like so: var(--portalThemeOnColor1)
