Hi All,

I am working on a Power App Canvas App with a Screen with a Gallery Control. Each row has several TextInput controls (6). This layout is providing an Excel like experience which is familiar to the end users. This is a data entry form where the input is numbers.

The end users would like the entire contents of a control to be selected when they click onto one of the TextInput controls. The would like this because they can just start typing their updated numbers. If the user tabs to the next control, this highlights/selected the entire contents of the next control like what they want when they click into a control.

I have presented options with using the "HintText" value instead of prepopulating the fields with defaults or using two TextInput controls stacked on one another with the top one have a Transparent Fill property and a show high based on the IsBlank of the top TextInput. This does still not get the functionality the end user is looking for.

Is there a function I am missing which allows you to select the entire contents of a control similar to CTRL+A?

I have also briefly looked at PCF Controls and possibly creating one to duplicate the OnFocus functionality but this seems like overkill for such simple functionality.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mark

    Hi

So here is have a Vertical Gallery. I have added 2 text inputs (modern controls).
When I run it tabs to the first row, or if I simply click a row and I can tab through and simply start typing I don't have to do anything else like hit enter.
Now while I understand you feel its simple the functionality just isn't there to respond to a Click (aka on select) for SINGLE click
but if they double click it will do it automatically.

So you have the below (auto full selection with tabbing)
    OR
They have to double click the input instead of simply selecting it.

    Now I start typing

    Then I hit tab

    And start typing

And I shift tab to go backwards and it auto selects everything

Now tab forward and again autoselect and then start typing it wipes the old stuff and I have a new value

    Now,

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for your detailed response. I should have mentioned that I'm not currently using modern controls, so I'll need to double-check if this works with the basic/standard text input control. Your explanation was very helpful and much appreciated.

I also noticed that your reply was marked as the Verified Answer. While I deeply value your contribution, I would have preferred the opportunity to verify the answer myself. As a fellow Super User, I understand the significance of having one's solution acknowledged. Additionally, questions marked as Answered tend to receive less attention, which might limit further valuable input. I was particularly hoping to hear from those with experience in creating PCF Controls.

    Thank you for your help,

    -Mark
