Can't create environment with Dataverse database even though I have capacity!

Hello,

I have 2 tenants that have the same issue: they can't create environments with a Dataverse database even though they have sufficient capacity. Both are Commercial tenants.

Here is the capacity for the first one, 3.08 of 11.23 GB used. The second tenant has similar Dataverse capacity.

When I try to add a Dataverse database to an environment, I get "This operation is subject to capacity constraints".

When I click the link for "capacity constraints" I am forwarded to the "New Microsoft Dataverse storage capacity" page, supposedly updated on 9/1/2023, which states that only 1 GB of free Dataverse capacity is required to create an environment:

Of course this page is a bit unclear because it just says "Create a new environment" not "Create a new environment with a Dataverse database." So further research reveals the "Plan and manage license and capacity allocations" page which states clearly, and even highlights the paragraph, that "To create a database, there must be at least 1 GB of Dataverse database capacity remaining."

So WHY can't I create a new environment with a Dataverse database when I have more than enough capacity??? This is very frustrating! I opened a case with Microsoft support and it took them 3 weeks to write me back and then they closed the case before I got a chance to talk to anyone (it's truly frightening how bad Microsoft "support" has gotten).

Any ideas greatly appreciated! Anyone else have this problem? Again, I have this issue with two commercial tenants, so it's not a problem with GCC, GCC-High or DoD and it's not restricted to only one tenant.

Thanks,

Kathryn

    What error do you have?

I think that this is only and advise, don't it?

There is no error. The Save button is simply greyed out.

    Hello @kbirstein,

You will actively have to either define a security group for the environment or specify that no security group should be used to secure access to this environment. In your screenshot you have not completed this step yet (under the heading "Security group".

You can find more information about the consequences of using an environment security group here.

    Hi Joe,

That worked! Although it definitely was not necessary until recently (I first noticed this problem creating environments with Dataverse databases about 9 months ago). Do you have a link to where this is documented? Couldn't find anything in Microsoft docs. . .

    Thanks,

    Kathryn
