Import data from Excel into subgrid in Power App

Hi!
I often use the 'import from Excel' function in my applications, and now I find myself in a situation where I hoped it would be possible to do it for data in a subgrid as well. The following function is the one I hoped to find for my subgrid:

Unfortunately, I don't seem to see it for Subgrids. Is there anything similar where you can create multiple rows at a time, while preserving the relationship to the column that has been looked up?

I have the same question (0)

If you want the same functionality, you can try to replicate the button on the subgrid view using RibbonWorkbench - https://www.xrmtoolbox.com/plugins/RibbonWorkbench2016/

It's a tool that's been around for a while and although it was initially created for Dynamics365, it still works for Model-Driven Apps.  You can inspect and view the definition of the 'Import from CSV' button from any table and create a similar button on your subgrid that triggers the same backend function.  Note that this won't pre-populate the association to the parent record - your user would still have to do that. If that limitation is ok with you, the proceed with the custom button implementation.

If you'd like something a little more automatic and easier on the user (but harder on you as the dev) - you can add a 'file' column so that the user can upload a template. Create another date field to be your 'trigger' for a flow. Then create a modern commanding button on your subgrid that updates your date field.  Create a flow that monitors this date field for changes, retrieves the attached document, parses the rows in the document, and creates the records and associates it to the parent record.  It's several more steps in the dev side, but should give you a copy of the 'import from csv' option if you do it right.

    Hi @marierasmu123

It is not a functionality that is part of the sub grid when you explore the commands within the Ribbons Workbench.

You could try to see the command associated to the button and reuse the command (this command is system specific) and check if it can work for the subgrid. I haven't seen any functionality that allows you to do this exporting you are asking for other than developing code that allows you to export to excel based on the view.

Sub Grid this option does not appear

This is the command you would have to reuse in the custom button

It would look something like this

Try it because you would be using a system command.

    Hi @marierasmu123 ,

what kind of data do you like to import. Basically you could have two kind of data shown in subdrids. Either many to one related records. In that case just open the related entity and import there. Example from CRM: Contacts to Accounts. Might not be possible to import from account form, but open contact views and you'll find the button.

If the linked entity is not present in your menu, you can open it by adding the entity name to the URL. Just open any entity's view and you will see URL like "&pagetype=entitylist&etn=xyz" - just replace xyz by the logical name of the entity.

The second type of data in subgrid might be related to many to many relationship, for example members of a marketing list. These data cannot be imported at all because there is no regular entity to work on (except you have created a custom entity to map this many to many relation). But there is another option. In XRM Toolbox there is a tool called "NN Relationship manager" which allows this action.
