Calculated column referencing to lookup column

Hi

I have found an article that in views column labels can not be changed. IT is really nasty if i add a column from related data.

Solved: Renaming column headers in an entity view - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

In this article it is said that i can create a calculated column and reference to it the lookup field but when i do that i get an error "You can't set the value which is of type lookup to type string.

Is the topic false or i am doing something wrong?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Can you please provide your calculated field type, what field you try to get from the parent entity and the formula of the calculated field.

    Hi @a33ik

my calculated field is a text type.

My Formula in calculated field is just i select reference to lookup field so it is like =lookupieldname

That won't work. Check this post - https://crmtipoftheday.com/1349/calculated-field-from-related-record/

    Hi @jja ,

Have you looked at using a realtime workflow instead to set the value of the field?  In the real time workflow you would be able to reference the lookup field on your entity and even pull fields from the entity to populate on the current entity.

Not sure if this meets your needs but something to look at.  You can trigger the workflow off of the creation of the record and the change of the lookup field value.

    Hi @dpoggemann
that won't work i use only powerapps per app or per user license
All would be much easier it there was a posibility to change column labels in views. that would be so simple

    Hi @jja,

To go back to your question in your initial post, it will work on calculated fields for lookups on text fields. You can reference related fields of the lookup by entering a "." (decimal) then the intellisense will popup where you can select the name of the lookup field. Ex:

    Hope this helps!
