Hello,
I want to know whether calculated columns/ pivot table can be manipulated in PowerApps?
What are the restrictions PowerApps is having in order to perform the data operations in excel file stored in Onedrive?
Thanks,
Thank you for your attention!
However, I just did a simple test by adding calculated column that sums 2 columns value, and I was unable to see any data in the data table control in PowerApps App, while with simple excel data table without any formulas, I was able to see the data in PowerApps app.
This made me to raise this question, whether there is any restrictions on excel file operations, can you please share if there is any reference link around it?
Are you saying when you set your Data Table's data source to be an excel table that includes a column with a calculated value, you do not see that column in your app?
I don't think I have experienced that so I will test it out. But, just to be sure, did you close out your excel and refresh the data source within your app?

Hi @PowerAddict
Are you saying when you set your Data Table's data source to be an excel table that includes a column with a calculated value, you do not see that column in your app? - Yes, That's true. And if I remove the calculated column from the same excel workbook, I see data are being displayed in App.
Also, yes I have closed excel as without that It will throw visible error message. I kept refreshing the data connection in app as well, nothing was helpful.
For example take up this excel sample - https://www.contextures.com/datavalidationsamples/datavalmatchingitems.zip
and when I try to display "tblEmp" on Data table control in PowerApp, It does not display anything, as "ListNum" is a calculated column with formulas.
I have noticed, even those tables are not being displayed on excel online too - I am not sure whether excel online has such restriction as well?
Also, I found two post:
1) Excel formula doesn't work in PowerApps - https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/If-Excel-has-a-formula-data-not-showing/m-p/1569#M954
2) Excel file with formula as datasouce is currently under review - https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Apps-Ideas/Using-Excel-files-with-formulas-as-a-data-source/idc-p/295742
Does that conclude that currently excel file with forulas/pivor tables/macros is not supported in PowerApps?
What am I missing here?
Looking into this now.
So before we get into too much details, I created a data table with your excel sheet and setting tblEmp as the data source. This is how it looks like for me (I can see every column):
Let me know if this helps.
Does it work using OneDrive business connector? If I try to import static data, It will work, however that is not my requirement.
Would you please share how did you made the connection to verify from my side? Any idea what could be wrong in my app as the same file with OneDrive for business connector is not working for me 😞
My sincere apologies for the confusion, yes I was trying with a static excel.
And you are **bleep** right! One thing that I did want to try was to recreate the excel file after moving it to One Drive for Business and see if we still run into that issue. Is that something that you have tried? If not, I can try that.
Let me know.
Hello @PowerAddict
I actually found the restriction of Excel file while discussing in another thread here - https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/What-is-the-best-practice-for-Excel-file-location-in-OneDrive/m-p/521440/highlight/false#M159374
This is helpful, Thank you for your time!
