Lock stages in business process flows conditionally

I have a business process flow developed for an order processing system with couple of stages (each stage is responsible for different users).

Task 1 - Each user is allowed to update values in the stage they are responsible and not permitted to make updates in other stages.

Task 2 - Every stage is locked and inaccessible unless previous stage is completed. (i.e. stage 2 will be unlocked after completing stage 1. 3 will be unlocked after completing 2. likewise.)

My question here is there a way we can lock/unlock stages based on the logged user or conditionally to achieve above two tasks.

Please help.

I have this same problem. Business rules don't seem to work as they can't be tied to security roles from what I can tell. I suspect the only way would be some kind of Javascript function that recognizes the role and disables the buttons.

I am currently stuck on this as well. I tried this tutorial to restrict stages in a business process flow, however it didn't work for me. Perhaps it will work for someone so I will add it as a possible solution:

Restrict users to move stage in Business Process Flow (BPF) in Dynamics 365 CE/ CRM, Power Apps (youtube.com)

Someone also suggested using the "lock or unlock" feature in a business rule. I tried that as well with no luck.
