Power Apps for Small Business Setup

Hello,

I am currently exploring using Power Apps for my small business but I'm having trouble understanding the licensing and setup and after an hour spent googling around I'm still not 100% clear. I'm hoping someone can help answer the below questions:

  • Do I need a Microsoft 365 for Business subscription to use Power Apps? If so, is a Basic plan sufficient?
  • Does the Power Apps subscription include Dataverse? Will I be able to host all of my data within Dataverse and submit my data there through my app?
  • Is Power Automate included in my Power Apps license or will I need to purchase it separately?
  • I'm trying to understand the total cost I would be looking at. Would I be correct in assuming that per user per month I would be paying the Microsoft 365 basic subscription cost + the Power Apps per app cost for a total of CAD $19.20 per user per month?
  • Is there anything else I should know when going down this path?

Thanks in advance.

    • You do need a license to make use of Power Apps and Power Automate, but the Microsoft 365 Small Business plans all include Power Apps and Power Automate for use with Standard connectors like SharePoint.  Power Automate Desktop UI flows aren't included with Basic, But as was just announced at Ignite they will be included with Windows 10.
    • The Office 365 "seeded" licenses do not include Dataverse.  Full Dataverse is a premium connector and would require a per user or per app license.  You can use a version of Dataverse in Power Apps and Power Automate inside Teams without additional licensing.
    • Power Automate can be used to build flows that enhance SharePoint or work with your Power Apps without additional licensing.  Standalone Power Apps  that are not related to Office 365 or a Power App would require additional licensing.  But these are not very common.
    • As long as you don't use any of the premium connectors, like Dataverse or SQL, there is no additional cost above your Office 365 license.
    • Let me know if you have other specific questions.
