Lookup field Search Limitation

Hi Community,

I am working on a project on Power Apps with Dataverse as data source.

There is a requirement to Search Lookup fields in Gallery. I understand Search function expects String type only. I came across a workaround to create a formula column with Text Format and refer it to the lookup field in dataverse table. Later, that can be used in Search function.

I have following queries:

  1. Is there a better alternative to this approach to meet the requirement?

  2. Are there are any limitations in the aforementioned workaround?

Regards,
Koundinya

    Hi Koundinya,

to give you a more accurate answer I will need more detail about what you want to build in power apps, because text limitation is only for Search Function, but you can filter using Filter, or Lookup Functions, and those ones does not have that text limitation.

but if search is the good aproach for you please consider the following, search function does not support delegation, and you are going to find a delegation warning. This means that by default the first 500 rows of your table will be searched and returned, you can increase this limit up to 2000 in the advanced settings.

there is a really good explained article here explaining a lot about search function: https://www.matthewdevaney.com/power-apps-search-function-delegation-warning-workarounds/

    Hi Jhonatan,

I guess you replied with an understanding that my data source is SharePoint. My data source is Dataverse. Search is delegable in Dataverse.

I need to have Search functionality. I already have implemented Filter function in my code.

The requirement is to use Search on Lookup field in a table that is connected to a gallery.

    Regards,
    Koundinya
