Hi ,
need to create reports with the data on modeldriven app using the run report and reports using excel or Power BI. Need to have a date time picker(or select a date range) for the user to sort report by date and category.

It's a bit confusing but model-driven apps are distinct from canvas apps in how they're designed and how they work from a backend perspective. It may also not be necessary to involve a canvas app at all if you're looking to convert data into a Power BI dashboard sort of experience.

Take a look at this article if you want to use Excel for your reporting with CDS data. Excel templates are really easy to set up and are a great way to get reports done quickly.
Power BI takes more work to set up and can require additional licenses but it is very powerful. Here are some details to get started with Power BI and CDS https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/data-platform-powerbi-connector
