Possibility to at a inactivity timeout feature in Copilot chatbots

Hi all,

I'm building a Custom Copilot using Microsoft Copilot Studio that is integrated with Dataverse and deployed both on the web and in Microsoft Teams.

I would like to implement a session timeout mechanism where:

  • Ends the session and resets the conversation,

  • Prompts the user with a message like: "It looks like you've been away. Would you like to continue or start over?"

I'm aware that Copilot Studio doesn't support background timers or native timeout settings, but is there any workaround ?

The goal is to avoid holding on to stale session context when the user has been idle for too long.

Has anyone successfully implemented something like this, or does Microsoft plan to support such a feature natively?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,
    from MSFT docs
Inactivity    Fires when a user hasn't interacted with the agent after a configured period of time.

you can configure a topic for inactivity and configure how many minutes you consider triggering this topic It works like any other topic...

To achieve this, you can add an inactivity trigger and, in its configuration, use a global boolean variable (Global.conversationComplete), so that this topic is only activated when the conversation has not been completed (true).
If the topic that you use to finish conversation, establish that variable to true.

With that adjustments, the topic will only be called when real timeout (user idle) and never if the conversation ends correctly
